At Young at Art Studios we build artists by enhancing skills and capitalizing on little successes. Our experience with hundreds of students over the years has convinced us that artistic talent is not a gift to the lucky few but that everyone is born with creativity. Everyone can learn to create art. Young at Art Studios programs reflect and support our belief that strong basic skills are imperative to foster creative exploration and thought. We start by teaching the student to see beyond the obvious, to the elements that form their picture. This is done through a process of breaking down the subject into simple shapes, lines and spaces. Next, basic methods like use of color, light and shadow; positive and negative space; composition and perspective are applied. Finally, these skills are enriched by the student's personal creativity and the strength of our highly trained and creative staff.
Each student begins in a program based on his/her age and skill level and interests. Most students start with our Fine Arts Basics. For the older or more advanced students, placement is determined by a personal portfolio review. Fine Arts Basics (ages five to nine): Students begin studying and practicing drawing skills and incorporate mediums including pastels, colored pencils and charcoal. Following a project outline students advance to watercolors, acrylic, oils and advanced art methods. Fine Arts Specialized (ten years and up): Students select a subject matter and art medium of their preference and then follows a project outline which teaches artistic skills and visual thinking. Fine Arts Personal Focus (12 years and up): Students work with the lead studio artist-instructor to create an individual plan that incorporates personal interests and further develops artistic skills and creative thinking. Why is art important? Read, "Ten Lessons the Arts Teach". |
